Vietnam – Host Country
Vietnam is a nation of remarkable cultural depth and natural beauty, where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony. Stretching from the northern mountains to the fertile Mekong Delta, the country’s landscapes include terraced highlands, tropical forests, limestone karsts, extensive coastlines, and vibrant river systems. Vietnam is home to 54 officially recognized ethnic groups, each contributing its own customs, languages, and heritage to the country’s rich cultural mosaic. Vietnamese is the national language, yet dozens of ethnic languages and local dialects remain alive across regions, reflecting the country’s linguistic diversity.

Vietnam’s long history—shaped by dynasties, cultural exchanges, and periods of national resilience—has produced a unique blend of Confucian, Buddhist, and indigenous traditions. Today, the nation is rapidly developing, with dynamic economic growth, expanding scientific research, and strong emphasis on education. This combination of heritage, cultural vibrancy, and forward-looking energy makes Vietnam a truly distinctive and inviting destination.
Hanoi
The 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics will be hosted in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. Located in the northern part of the country along the Red River, Hanoi is one of Southeast Asia’s most historic capitals. With over a thousand years of history, the city showcases an exceptional blend of ancient heritage and contemporary life. The Old Quarter’s narrow streets, the serene lakes scattered throughout the city, and landmarks such as the Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum illustrate Hanoi’s rich cultural past.
French colonial architecture—tree-lined boulevards, yellow villas, and iconic heritage buildings—sits alongside modern high-rises, creating a landscape where old and new gracefully intertwine. Over the years, Hanoi has become a dynamic hub of education, research, and innovation. The city hosts leading academic institutions, research centers, and universities that contribute significantly to Vietnam’s scientific advancement.

Hanoi is also celebrated for its vibrant and welcoming community. People from all regions of Vietnam come to the capital to study, work, or start new ventures, making the city a diverse, youthful, and culturally rich environment. Known for its safe public spaces, efficient transportation options, thriving food culture, and deep-rooted appreciation for learning, Hanoi provides an ideal setting for an international scientific competition.
With its blend of history, culture, hospitality, and modern development, Hanoi is proud to host IOAA 2026 and welcomes young astronomers and educators from around the world to experience the city’s unique charm.
